The Fight to Decriminalize Sex Work
I'm teaching a short, virtual course on it, staring February 28.
Should we decriminalize prostitution? What are the best arguments for doing so? What progress toward it have U.S. sex worker rights activists been making recently? What obstacles do they face? Is decriminalization the same as legalization? What’s the “equality model” of regulating prostitution? The difference between sex work and sex trafficking? Would decriminalizing the former lead to more of the latter?
If you’ve wondered any of the above, you might be interested in course I’m teaching through Chapter, a new-ish platform for virtual learning. Chapter courses are short, self-paced, and inexpensive (this one is $30). Each week of the 4-week course revolves around a different sub-theme, on which I’ve curated 5-10 links to articles, videos, & podcasts and offered commentary on each one. There’s also a private course forum, for asking me questions and further discussing the things covered that week.
This is my first go-round with Chapter, whose head approached me in late December about creating a course, and I’m excited about the format. Unlike a lot of online courses, the format of this one allows people to explore things in their own time—instead of having to tune in at a set time every time week—while still being interactive. It also allows for dicussions outside the cesspool and permanent record of social media.
The course starts this upcoming Monday, February 28. If you’re interested, you can learn more and sign up here: https://getchapter.app/@ENBrown/sex-work
Some of the things we’ll cover…
Well, it looks like that platform didn't last. Do you have any plans to relaunch this elsewhere?
